Daintree Rainforest

The World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest located a 2-hour drive north of Cairns, is over 135 million years old and 1200 square kilometres, making it both the oldest and largest rainforest in the world and is home to many threatened animal and plant species not found anywhere else on the planet.

The Wet Tropics Rainforest contains relicts of the great Gondwanan Forest that covered Australia and part of Antarctica. All of Australia’s unique marsupials and most of its animals originated in rainforest eco systems and their closest living relatives occur in the Wet Tropics today making it of universal value.
